IT-ICT: to improve teaching

IT, computer-assisted teaching, used in high-income countries can create many new learning environments. But how far do these really improve standards of achievement? And what is the true cost of IT in schools? While richer countries experiment with classroom use of IT and stabilize its performance, others can save precious resources by harmonising the new IT with time proven ICT to achieve successful learning differently. Our blog keep you up to date with news from around the world on these issues and lets you judge which approach is best for your school, your country.

Why this blog?

To present new opportunities for productive implementation of IT and ICT in schools in middle and low income countries. We all know that the shine of IT and computer-based teaching can be blinding. Too often IT has proved to be a silver bullet instead of sound pedagogy. So we bring you news and reports from around the world and an archive containing many revealing reports (see below). We like to keep things in perspective and report about new low-cost ICT, upgraded yet proven over time to raise learning standards.

New understanding leads to better solutions. A more effective educational policy becomes possible when a clear distinction is made between realising computer literacy for students, achievable in computer labs where computer learning can also start, and the aim to modernise teaching in the classroom.

In this new harmonised IT-ICT approach much money can be saved through better preparation of schools and teachers for the future. This is when computer based teaching starts to live up to expectations and is ready to enter the classroom.
